Ambrose's Diaries - Blog Entry #12 - This isn't funny at all

Okay, it's coming up to the end of my Freshman year and I look forward with anticipation (and intrepidation) to my Sophomore year.
I have worked extremely hard, studied well, kept my assignments up to date.....

Yadda ..... Yadda....

I know, I'm sounding like a broken record here.

But that's not the kind of news I'm about to tell you anyway.
Here's a horror story for you, and a lesson well learned, for me.

I have just come back from the college infirmary today, after nursing my badly swollen skin.

All because I was bug hunting. Minding my own business, with a gigantic jar I'd filched (asked kindly to have) from the dorm cook, when all of a sudden, I was set upon, by a swarm of angry bees.

Nasty little beggars too.....
...... chased me all around the outside of my dorm.

They were relentless too, as no matter how fast I ran, they matched my speed.

And I swear they all had radar and could sense fear, wherever I went, they were right behind me.

Luckily for me, this all happened after class, but, what a lousy way to end the day though. Sitting getting treated for multiple stings. Who would have thought that an innocent game of bug hunting, would have ended up as a terrifying experience?

But do you know what?

They're never going to best me. I'm going to collect more bugs for my bug board, even if it means getting stung again. After all, there are some really interesting bugs, here in the desert.

Well, that's one of my most recent stories.

Here's another one (not quite so sinister though).

Well, I had some time to kill, in between classes, so I decided to be a Good Samaritan and serve food in the dorm cafeteria. Besides, it appears that it's all part of the college program. Sort of a 'life experience' thing.

I don't know what was more nerve wracking, getting stung by bees, waiting for the nurse to tend to my stings at the infirmary, or volunteering to work at the dorm cafeteria.

Imagine my complete horror, when I donned the uniform, and found that my hair had turned from glossy jet black, to RED????

I have never been a red head from as far back as I can remember.
On another note, don't I look like a real dork?
*suppresses derisive laughter*

Well, after getting over that shock, I settled into cafe work

clearing dirty plates

cleaning ovens.....

..... right down to serving the food.
And the meal on today's menu.....

was....

Mac & cheese.

Now, I'm stood here, sweating over the oven, never actually had the chance to cook for myself, and everybody's putting their trust in my cooking skills!!!!

Oh the sheer horror (and embarrassment) if everything went pear shaped now!!!
After all, one of my fears is fire!!!

(Along with parties and roaches, but those ones are highly unlikely as I like to keep things - spick and span)

So you can imagine, here I am, nervously stirring the saucepan, waiting for the inevitable to happen.......

........ and it didn't.

Phew!!!!

Of course it was a little salty, as I'd over done the seasoning, but I've got to admit. Not bad for a beginner.

But I know I have a better understanding of what the dorm cook goes through.

After standing for just a couple of hours, I discovered that this type of work is energy and comfort sapping.

Still, I earned a decent crust of money into the bargain too.
Let's hope those bills don't swallow it up this time.

This is Ambrose signing out

Cheers
